DON'T JUDGE A BOOK BY ITS COVER II

My concept explores the connection between external impressions and internal meaning through visual and textural narratives.

My work is inhabited by varying subtle and deliberate textures all shrouded by the colour white. This disguises the intricacy of the work and requires the observer to study closely or physically interact with the work to understand and immerse in the complexities, this evokes the title of my concept; “don’t judge a book by its cover”.

When we talk to people for the first time we can make value judgements based on their job, their gender, their age or any number of social indicators, involuntarily invoking stereotypical views that can shape our behavior, I believe we can look a little more deeply or adjust our own thought processes we can be more respectful.

In my work I use only the color white, to create an atmosphere that is simple enough to approach but also subtle and indistinct to induce interpretation and imagination, white can represent both empty and full, through light and shadow it can focus or blind, this vague line of representation between reality and the void is the neutral area my work occupies and in centre by the concept “don’t judge a book by its cover”.
